SAHS Homecoming 2010 a Booming Success
The pre-game crowning of Santa Anna High School’s homecoming royalty is only the beginning of a weekend of recognition, celebration and activities, capping a week of school activities. Eddie Hartman of the Class of 1960 was named Ex-Student of the Year, and Coming home Queen and King were Eva Frausto Adamson and Jody Patterson from the class of 1990.
At halftime of Friday night’s game against the Eden High School Bulldogs, the Mountaineers honored Lauren Pritchard as SAHS Homecoming queen. Other members of the Homecoming court were: Paige Guerrero, Sarah Herrod, and Natalie Neville.
Walking into the High School building any day last week might have given a visitor pause. Students were outfitted throughout the week in various themes: Monday was ESPN day, Tuesday was cartoon character day, Wednesday bandana day, Thursday celebrity dress-up day, and Friday was Black and Gold day.
On Friday afternoon, SAHS students ended the school day with a parade and pep rally. The homecoming parade started at 2:00 p.m. downtown, where first place Decorated Float went to the Kindergarten for “Mountaineer Obedience School”, earning $150. Second and third went to the First Grade “Hook the Dogs” with $125 and $100 to “Spirit Girls: Sarah, Amber, and Lauren”.
In the Homecoming game, the Mountaineers overcame a half-time deficit to dispatch the Bulldogs 36 to 24 in a hard-fought, but well-deserved victory.
SAHS Exes packed elbow-to-elbow in the Elementary school Saturday morning for coffee and conversation, followed at 10:00 by the SAHS Ex-Student Association business meeting in the Auditorium. Tom Guthrie (Class of ’95) presided over the meeting, assisted by Secretary Chris Cheaney (’97), and First Vice President James Curtis(‘57). They were joined by Danna Jones, newly elected to take over as Secretary for a two year term.
During the meeting the Ex-Student of the Year, Coming home Queen and King were recognized along with long time administrator, R.C. Smith for his years of service to Santa Anna ISD.
Exes adjourned to a barbecue lunch hosted by the Mountaineer Booster Club in the cafeteria after the meeting. Then Saturday afternoon and into the night found Exes in groups across town, renewing old friendships and making new ones.
